Notables

After winning the 1966 Memorial Cup as the owner, GM, & coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings, he wanted a more competitive league for Western Canadian clubs so helped organize and was the first chairman of the Western Canadian Hockey League (now the WHL)
Credited with bringing professional hockey to Edmonton 1972 in the form of the Alberta Oilers (now Edmonton) in the World Hockey Association (WHA)
He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2000
Was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
