Notables
- After winning the 1966 Memorial Cup as the owner, GM, & coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings, he wanted a more competitive league for Western Canadian clubs so helped organize and was the first chairman of the Western Canadian Hockey League (now the WHL)
- Credited with bringing professional hockey to Edmonton 1972 in the form of the Alberta Oilers (now Edmonton) in the World Hockey Association (WHA)
- He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2000
- Was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
